Shortparis is one of Russia’s most exciting bands of the last decade and has blown away audiences at some of Europe’s biggest music festivals since forming in 2012. Their music has been described by John Doran, from the magazine The Quietus, as ‘ambitious, bombastic, incredibly pretentious, erotic, thrilling, impossible to pin down, vaguely deviant, fun to dance to and full of revolutionary potential.’ Their set-list is a mix of songs performed in Russian, French and English, with intense post-punk, heavy industrial-tinged throbs, theatrical pop and the avant-garde. See them at the Barents Spektakel before they get snapped up for Øya festival’s main stage… or Beijing’s BMF festival.
