MARITA ISOBEL SOLBERG, B. 1977, Tromsø, Norway
Solberg is a musician and visual artist, working mainly with sound, performance art and installation. Through her art she is exploring communication and transformation through science, history and presence. Her performative expression takes the audience on a journey where magic can happen. In addition to her master’s degree from Oslo National Academy of the Arts (2007), and Nordland Art and-Filmschool in Lofoten, she has been singing and exploring different musical genres ever since childhood, developing her own style. Today she is performing with her team in M M M M A R A S, creating new art and music.
Solberg is originally from Manndalen in North-Troms. She has a base in Tromsø, Norway, but lives a nomadic life on the Norwegian and international art scene. She has done performances and residencies in places like The Watermill Center in New York, Grace Exhibition Space in Brooklyn, NY, Art/Life Institute in Kingston, NY, The Performance Studio in London, The Arctic Hideaway in Fleinvær and Center For Nonconformist Artist in St. Petersburg, Russia. With her strong connection with the northern Norwegian part of the country, she has been the director of the fictional Sámi Daiddamusea in the award-winning museum performance by Riddu Duottar Museat and Northern Norway Art Museum in 2017.
