Tang
This year’s festival hangout is an installation as much as a social retreat, created by the artist duo Devils Apron; Trond Ansten and Kåre Grundvåg.
TANG — as well as being one of the most popular surnames in China — is the Norwegian word for seaweed. This marine resource is packed with a dizzying amount of nutrients and there are rumours that the indigenous people of Kamchatka once made an alcoholic beverage from it.
Together with stage designer Tatiana Ludanik, they will create an evocative social space where you can immerse yourself into a marine world. Take a dip in the algal pool, raise a glass of the sea and taste authentic street-style Chinese food by kinakåk.no (Håkon Lindbäck & Chen Qian). TANG is a place for guest performers by night and guest speakers by day, with a dash of sci-fi films and karaoke. House DJ Matti Aikio is keeps the rhythm till last drinks are called.
Vegetables of the sea might be our future food, alcohol and fuel all in one. So, what might our future taste like? Will Nordic seaweed fused with Chinese mould spores become the new wine? This and more the artists explore through their ecological and social experimentation.
